Who can bring family to Singapore?
An eligible Employment Pass or S Pass holder can generally apply for family passes when the main pass holder earns at least $6,000 in fixed monthly salary. MOM says this is based on the main pass holder's salary, not combined household income, and the application is sponsored by an established Singapore-registered company.
The salary threshold is a starting eligibility condition, not an approval guarantee. The family relationship, supporting documents, immigration history and current MOM requirements still need to be checked.
Do not add the spouse's salary or other household income to reach the threshold. Confirm the current MOM position before making relocation commitments.
Dependant's Pass or LTVP?
Dependant's Pass
For a legally married spouse or an unmarried child under 21, including a legally adopted child, of an eligible EP or S Pass holder.
Long-Term Visit Pass
For a common-law spouse, unmarried handicapped child aged 21 or above, unmarried step-child under 21, or parent where the main pass holder earns at least $12,000 in fixed monthly salary.
Separate applications
Each family member needs a separate application. Applications may be submitted with the main pass application or later.
Pass duration
The pass duration is tied to the main work pass or the duration requested, whichever is shorter.
A family member who does not fit one route should not be placed into another route simply because it is more convenient. The relationship and supporting evidence need to match the pass selected.
Apply one family member at a time.
For dependants of EP or S Pass holders, the employer or appointed employment agent submits the application through EP eService. The organisation's turnover information for the past three years should be updated before submission.
Identify
Confirm the relationship, main pass details and the appropriate DP or LTVP route.
Prepare
Collect the relationship documents and personal particulars for that family member.
Submit
File a separate application and pay the application fee for each person.
Wait
MOM currently states that most EP and S Pass dependant applications are processed within three weeks.
Issue
Bring the approved family member into Singapore and complete issuance before the IPA deadline.
Processing times are indicative. Requests for additional documents or case-specific checks can take longer.
Relationship evidence matters.
The exact document list depends on the family relationship and the current MOM application instructions. Prepare clear, consistent documents and check whether anything needs translation, certification or further explanation.
Keep the family member's passport particulars and personal details consistent across the application.
Prepare the marriage, birth, adoption or other relationship document relevant to the route.
Check that the sponsoring employer profile and turnover information are current.
Coordinate the IPA, travel, issuance and any registration step with the main pass holder's timeline.
$105
Application fee for each family pass submitted.
$225
Issuance fee for each pass approved and issued.
$30
Multiple Journey Visa fee where required.
A family pass is not a general work authorisation.
A dependant who wants to work should be assessed for the appropriate work-pass route. A DP holder may move to an Employment Pass or S Pass if they meet the prevailing criteria, or may be eligible for another route depending on the work arrangement.
Do not promise work rights based only on the DP or LTVP. The prospective employer should check the current MOM position and apply for the correct pass before the person starts work.
Plan the family timeline with the hire.
Before approval
Confirm the family relationships, likely route, document availability and whether applications will be submitted together.
After approval
Send each family member the correct IPA and arrange travel only after the relevant pass is approved.
At issuance
Check the Singapore address, delivery details, fees and notification letter for every family member.
At renewal
Review the main pass and family passes together. A family pass does not have an independent validity period longer than the main pass.
If circumstances change, such as a marriage ending, a child reaching the relevant age or a main pass being cancelled, review the family passes promptly and follow MOM's notification or cancellation process.
FAQ
What salary does an EP holder need to bring family members?
MOM currently states that the main EP or S Pass holder must earn at least $6,000 in fixed monthly salary. This is based on the main pass holder's salary, not combined household income.
Who qualifies for a Dependant's Pass?
A legally married spouse and unmarried children under 21, including legally adopted children, may qualify if the main pass holder and employer meet the requirements.
Who may qualify for an LTVP?
MOM lists common-law spouses, unmarried handicapped children aged 21 or above, unmarried step-children under 21 and parents of eligible pass holders earning at least $12,000 in fixed monthly salary.
Can the family member work on a DP or LTVP?
Do not assume so. The person should be assessed for the appropriate work pass before starting work. MOM's current guidance explains the available routes for family-pass holders who want to work.
Can the family pass be applied for later?
Yes. MOM allows the application to be submitted with the main pass application or at a later date, with a separate application for each family member.
